Lead Staff Development Trainer

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services is seeking a Lead Staff Development Trainer to plan, develop, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate comprehensive staff training and development programs. This role includes supervising training staff, ensuring high-quality instructional delivery, and collaborating with clinical leaders to identify training needs and support organizational development initiatives.

Responsibilities

The Lead Staff Development Trainer plans, develops, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates comprehensive staff training and development programs across the organization
This position provides direct supervision, coaching, and performance management to training staff to ensure consistent, high-quality instructional delivery
The Lead Staff Development Trainer leads new employee orientation; ensures ongoing competency-based education; and oversees the work of training staff supporting onboarding and continuing education
The role designs and maintains curricula and instructional materials using adult learning principles and a variety of instructional modalities, including classroom, virtual, and technology-enabled learning
The position ensures compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and relevant federal and state requirements
The Lead Staff Development Trainer collaborates with clinical leaders, managers, and subject matter experts to identify training needs, measure learning outcomes, and support organizational development and performance improvement initiatives

Required

Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design principles, and curriculum development
Experience planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating staff training programs in a healthcare, behavioral health, or similarly regulated environment
Experience supervising, coaching, or leading training staff or serving in a formal lead role with responsibility for instructional quality and outcomes
Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards affecting workforce training, including The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and applicable federal and state requirements
Proficiency in the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS), computer-based training platforms, and related data management tools
Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information to individuals and groups
Ability to analyze training needs, measure learning outcomes, and implement continuous improvement strategies
Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, exercise sound judgment, and accept direction while managing multiple priorities
A condition of employment for this position is that the Lead Staff Development Trainer must be a Certified CPR Instructor provided by the American Heart Association and a Certified Therapeutic Options Instructor provided by the Department of Behavioral Health and Rehabilitative Services

Preferred

Experience in a hospital setting
Work experience in staff development and training, instructional design, or related fields, such as education, social services, or human resources
Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
