Responsibilities

Serve as the primary HR resource for employees and leadership, ensuring consistent, fair, and compliant employee experience
Manage and administer employee relations matters, including addressing concerns, conflicts, investigations, and performance issues with professionalism and discretion
Maintain strong oversight of Illinois employment law compliance, including HR policies, employment practices, and regulatory requirements
Oversee benefits administration, leaves of absence (including FMLA, ADA accommodations), and general HR operations
Lead and manage the full onboarding and offboarding process to ensure a smooth employee lifecycle experience
Partner closely with leadership on HR strategy, staffing needs, policy updates, and employee engagement initiatives
Act as the primary point of contact for building management, coordinating office operations, safety, and facility’s needs
Oversee daily office operations to ensure a professional, organized, and productive work environment
Manage vendors and service providers related to facilities, office supplies, décor, office moves, lunches/events, and general workplace services
Maintain accountability across the office by being present, approachable, and actively engaged with employees throughout the workspace
Provide direct and dotted‑line leadership to a small team of staff members, which may include clerical, reception, litigation support, or file room personnel
Take a hands‑on leadership approach—remaining visible, accessible, and actively involved in day‑to‑day workflow and staff engagement
Ensure staff follow established procedures, maintain productivity standards, and adhere to company expectations

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources
Ability to demonstrate deep HR compliance expertise, particularly within Illinois employment law
Solid, well‑rounded HR knowledge base, including employee relations, benefits, leave administration, and compliance
Proven experience in an Office Manager / HR Manager hybrid role, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment
Prior experience managing staff and being accountable for office operations and workflow
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization
