Responsibilities
Advise senior and executive management and provide clear guidance on global trade regulations, fair competition, and risk management topics, promoting enterprise compliance
Manage a global legal team with a strategic approach to trade compliance and fair competition risks, emerging technologies, global supply chains, and evolving geopolitical developments
Proactively monitor, manage and mitigate risks through internal and external engagement with stakeholders and partners
Assist with development and implementation of legal strategies and goals in line with company's business objectives
Qualification
Required
J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials and active bar admission in any U.S. state
Demonstrated senior leadership support, advocacy, and acumen with strong intellectual curiosity
Considerable experience providing counsel for a global business and solid knowledge of Caterpillar's worldwide operations, policies, objectives, and history; 12+ years of progressively advancing job-related experience is typically required
Experience in leadership gained through previous senior level or supervisory assignments
Knowledge of the organization's vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, and code of ethics; ability to understand the value of aligning capabilities with business goals to support optimal performance
Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization
Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers
Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance
Knowledge of leadership concepts and ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives
Knowledge of the resources required to achieve business objectives; ability to plan, mobilize and distribute resources to fulfill business objectives and plans
Knowledge of methods and tools used in legal analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from both legal and factual information
Knowledge of the major responsibilities, accountabilities, and organization of the legal function or department; ability to provide legal consulting, advice and assistance
