Director of CTY Research & Evaluation (Strategic Initiatives & Public Affairs)

Responsibilities

Serve as department head and lead cross-departmental projects related to research, testing, and evaluation, working with other leaders to ensure that cross-departmental projects are aligned with each other and meeting objectives
Manage the administrative and scientific implementation of CTY research studies. Will collaborate with faculty, develop protocols, create standard operating procedures (SOPs), oversee regulatory submissions and other compliance/IRB requirements, and generally supervise all study-related activities
Supervise full-time staff, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and casual part-time staff (recruitment, performance appraisal, feedback, discipline concerns, separations)
Serve as the Principal Investigator on grants originating from CTY that align with the areas of expertise
Uses professional judgment in handling information and is sensitive to research team, individual and all levels of organizational concerns; makes use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and predictive modeling and fact-based management to drive decision making; and help investigators develop new insights and understanding of research program data
Operate independently, with guidance provided by CTY and the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives
Develop, organize and participate in research presentations; draft and edit research reports and manuscripts for scientific peer review publication
Identify and build relationships with faculty and staff at CTY, JHU, and external organizations, providing research presentations to stakeholders
Responsible for assembling project plans, team and work assignments, directing and monitoring work efforts on a daily basis, identifying resource needs, performing quality review, and escalating functional, quality and timeline issues appropriately
Provide a framework and guidance for CTY's test administration, evaluation, and revision for practical test maintenance
Provide vision and guidance on research and innovation in testing, including support for collaboration with research and external partners
Provide guidance and support for continuous improvement of the family experience in testing
Collaborate with other departments to ensure appropriate management of testing vendors
Provide strategic oversight for CTY's evaluation suite and its uses, including development of an evaluation framework that aligns to CTY's programmatic objectives
Provide support for data analysis of institutional data to support CTY's accreditation across various accrediting agencies
Manage staff to produce annual and on-demand reports on data from the CTY evaluation suite

Required

Doctoral-level Degree in Education, Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience, Psychology or related discipline. PhD candidates actively pursuing a doctoral degree with an anticipated completion within one year may be considered contingent upon relevant experience
Six years of related experience for Direct level
Ability to read, understand, and synthesize research
Ability to effectively manage complex projects and coordinate large groups
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and familiarity with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, or R)
Applicants must be authorized to work in the US
The successful candidate(s) for this position will be subject to a pre-employment background check
All employees participating in or serving children in university programs must participate in mandatory Child Abuse Prevention online training on the appropriate conduct around children, protecting children from abuse and neglect, and reporting of known or suspected child abuse and neglect

Preferred

Post-doctoral work in a related area, demonstrating the ability to independently manage projects
A PhD is preferred; candidates actively pursuing a doctoral degree with an anticipated completion within one year may be considered contingent upon relevant experience
Demonstrated ability to appropriately obtain, present and report evidence-based outcomes
Experience with quantitative research methods and statistics; familiarity with qualitative methods
Experience with IRB, data privacy, and research compliance issues
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with a wide variety of audiences including minors. Experience presenting to multiple audiences with ability to synthesize and interpret narrative and numerical data
Excellent written communication
Some experience working in an academic setting
Some experience working with minors in research
Familiarity with publishing in peer-reviewed journals is preferred
Grantsmanship and presentation skills also highly desired
Familiarity with program evaluation is a plus
Some knowledge of gifted/advanced education, with working knowledge of challenges in educational equity and under-represented populations is preferred
