Structural Engineer (Starship Infrastructure)
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. The Structural Engineer will focus on the design and development of high rise facilities for the Starship program, managing various engineering tasks to support rapid development and construction.

Responsibilities
Own structural engineering work packages for the production site design and development, with a heavy focus on integrated high rise facilities:
Design elements of multidisciplinary, multistory projects for new construction and modifications to existing structures. This includes all phases of project development, from conceptual feasibility studies, preliminary design through construction completion
Perform standard and complex structural engineering analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology and principles and other viable approaches. Our structures are unique with few precedents and aggressive schedules, ability to think outside the box is a must
Perform building level structural analysis and design for large steel and reinforced concrete buildings, including shallow and deep foundations. The candidate will need to quickly iterate at the conceptual level to drive rapid project development
Create structural design drawings, calculations, and design summary presentations
Estimate material quantities, schedules, and costs for construction projects
Write and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines
Perform project control tasks, including project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control
Manage multi-discipline design and construction projects, including coordination of typical systems found in high rise buildings (MEP, HVAC, etc)
Interact with other engineers, contractors, fabricators, and various stakeholders
Provide direct onsite field observations and resolve field conflicts in real time
Direct all field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to the original plans and specifications
Maintain the construction schedule, identify and solve problems
Maintain a positive relationship with the SpaceX end user, contractors, suppliers, and other Space X employees
Engage with new vendors to shore up our pool of contractors that have the ability to execute high rise projects
Prepare schedules and supervises completion of the final punch list
Promote job site safety as a top priority, encourage safe work practices and rectify job site hazards immediately
Ensure all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy
Interact with tradesman, contractors, and building officials to coordinate and execute maintenance repair and installation of facilities support equipment
Communicate updates to budgetary, drawings, and design requirements to management and engineering
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or physics
1+ years of experience with the design or build of structural infrastructure
Preferred
3+ years of professional experience in civil/structural engineering
Design experience with steel and/or concrete high rise design projects including design and analysis of primary gravity and lateral force resisting systems
Exposure to high rise construction projects is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have worked through CA on multiple large scale projects and have a solid understanding of means and methods of construction of high rise projects
Experience with temporary stability analysis during construction
Familiarity with various types of steel erection equipment (tower cranes, large crawlers, etc)
Professional Engineering (PE) or Structural Engineering (SE) license
Knowledge of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) steel manual, American Concrete Institute (ACI) code 318, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7, International Building Codes (IBC)
Knowledge of CMAA design guidelines for overhead cranes and supporting structures
Knowledge of AISC Design Guide 7 (Industrial Building Design)
Experience creating structural detail drawings in AutoCAD, Revit, NX, Solidworks or similar drafting programs (Revit being the most pertinent)
Knowledge of ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, ANSYS, FEMAP or similar analysis design programs
Understanding of other disciplines, such as, mechanical, electrical, geotechnical, and surveying. In particular, coordination of high rise systems during pre-construction through substantial completion
Experience reading, reviewing, and approving shop and fabrication drawings
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to independently and effectively manage projects in an extremely fast paced and changing environment; keep projects on time, deal with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and work with a diverse array of contacts
Tactful and mature demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities
Utilizes strong organizational skills
Understands project plans, specifications and construction purchasing systems
Displays strong written and oral communication skills and employs effective listening skills
Ability to analyze problems and make sound decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications and cost
Experience in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, quality control, and production of all phases of construction
