Counseling Center Post-Master's Fellowship (INTERN)

The University of Missouri-Columbia is seeking a Post-Masters Clinical Fellow at the MU Counseling Center to prepare individuals for independent practice as Licensed Professional Counselors. The role involves providing direct clinical services to university students, leading group therapy sessions, and participating in training and outreach services.

Responsibilities

The primary role of this position is to provide direct clinical services to university students. Clinical activities will be predominately comprised of individual therapy (including intake evaluations). Opportunities for sub-specialization with certain populations or presenting concerns may be available
Fellows are expected to be physically located at MUCC during work hours—with few exceptions that must be approved by MUCC administration
Additionally, the Fellow will be tasked with leading or co-leading one of MUCC’s many group therapy offerings each semester, with the Fellow’s group preference being considered along with clinical needs
Fellows will also receive training and experience in the development and provision of outreach services to the university community
Formal training opportunities include two (2) hours of individual supervision per week (provided by a licensed supervisor) as well as supervision of group therapy and a weekly team consultation meeting
Other activities include staff meetings (biweekly), didactic training seminars (several times per month), professional development time, preparation and records, and a clinical/administrative project that incorporates the Fellow’s training interests and the needs of the center

Required

Completion of a Master's degree from a mental health counseling program (e.g., Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counselor Education, Community Counseling, etc.) or counseling psychology program by the start date (August 10, 2026)
Encouraged to complete the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and obtain their provisional license (PLPC) by the end of the first semester in December
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus partners, and student groups
Commitment to actively engage in practice with students from various backgrounds
Interpersonal flexibility with a sense of humor
Awareness of the importance of life balance
Commitment to the importance of the developmental perspective of counseling services
