PDS - Data Intern (Planning)
The City of Boise's Department of Planning and Development Services is responsible for guiding the city's growth and development. They are seeking a Planning Data Intern to assist with organizing, maintaining, and analyzing planning data to support day-to-day operations and policy analysis.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Assist with organizing, maintaining, and analyzing planning and intake data that supports day-to-day operations, reporting, and policy analysis
Data entry and quality control
Tracking application and permitting activity
Compiling summaries for staff use
Assisting with the creation of basic reports and visualizations using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI
Completing a defined project or deliverable by the end of the semester
Observing planning processes and supporting related projects across the department
Qualification
Required
Undergraduate or Graduate student (degree-seeking) enrolled in an Idaho college or university
Proficiency in MS Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently with general guidelines under minimal supervision
Applicants must be able to pass: City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation
Preferred
Familiarity with spreadsheets, data organization, or basic data visualization
Experience with GIS, mapping, or graphic design
Students pursuing coursework in Urban Studies, Planning, Public Administration, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply
