The South Carolina Department of Education is seeking an accomplished Project Manager to oversee the implementation of the Agency’s transformation initiatives. This role is crucial in ensuring projects align with Agency objectives and are delivered successfully.

Responsibilities

Develop Comprehensive Project Plans: Create detailed project plans covering scope, risk, quality, cost, change management, communications, procurement, work breakdown structure, and schedule
Collaborate with Project Sponsors: Work closely with the project sponsor to develop the project charter, set goals, and establish priorities
Conduct Risk Management: Perform risk assessments and mitigation sessions, managing risks with a balanced, business-priority-driven approach
Lead Change Management Processes: Take on leadership roles in change management processes where applicable
Maintain Project Documentation: Ensure all required project documentation is developed and maintained throughout the project lifecycle
Implement Communication Plans: Develop and implement project communication plans to ensure effective external and internal communications
Define Project Scope and Requirements: Conduct thorough research to define project scope and requirements, identifying necessary resources and skill sets
Coordinate and Recommend Changes: Coordinate requests and recommend changes from original specifications with project sponsors, project team, or stakeholders
Stay Updated with Best Practices: Maintain project management expertise and familiarity with accepted best practices through self-study, professional journals, or participation in professional forums
Participate in Process Improvement: Engage in ongoing process improvement around delivery, methodology, and other relevant areas

Required

A bachelor's degree and experience managing large projects of moderate complexity and risk

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science, etc.)
Five plus (5+) years of experience in project management with proficiency in technology
Ability to plan, organize and manage strategic and tactical assignments and project management activities associated with state-wide enterprise and agency level information technology Initiatives
Manage the overall planning, execution and delivery of multiple projects
Deliver timely project health and performance reports
Must be able to work with a diverse group of professionals in all levels of the organization
Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel
Balance of business knowledge and people management skills
