Diagnostic Imaging Manager - Ophthalmology

Responsibilities

Perform all aspects of diagnostic imaging including fundus photography, ocular angiography, optical coherence tomography, slit lamp biomicrography, specular photomicrography, and other imaging as required by the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences
Direct and manage photography unit staff and perimetry unit staff including day to day clinical operations, off-site clinics, and clinical research activities. Assure delivery of specialized care and services using data driven metrics, decision making tools, and analytics
Develop and implement objectives, procedures and curriculum for training Ophthalmic Photographers and Perimetrists in various aspects of diagnostic testing
Serve as manager for perimetry staff. Serve as advocate and department liaison for perimetry facilitating communication, and training opportunities for staff
Monitor staff compliance with internal policies as well as external regulations for safe and effective delivery of care and health profession education. Establish and maintain procedures and systems to assure compliance. Develop, implement and monitor quality assurance initiatives and procedures in diagnostic testing, specifically photography and perimetry
Set standards, obtain certification, and manage staff certifications for imaging and visual fields required for clinical trials
Interview, select and manage training of diagnostic imaging support staff and perimetry staff. Manage staff schedules, time cards, and time off requests. Assure staff compliance with UI Health Care policy and procedure. Coach and support team performance as well as evaluate job performance through regular and annual performance reviews of photography and perimetry staff
Facilitate communication between and amongst health care team members working with photography and perimetry. Assure team members engage in effective collaboration for the benefit of patients
Evaluate, plan, and implement the incorporation of emerging technologies into the ophthalmology clinic, including modification of staff training procedures as required
Manage the imaging and perimetry equipment inventory, including recommending and specifying equipment for purchase and assuring proper equipment maintenance
Provide expertise for the technical and procedural research imaging components of grant applications, manuscripts, and web pages being prepared by faculty
Prepare and monitor budgets for unit operation and grant funding
Represent diagnostic imaging unit at professional group meetings, and workshops
Prepare manuscripts on digital imaging and visual fields for publication in refereed journals
Write original grant proposals for diagnostic imaging

Required

A Bachelor's degree in photography or other relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA) certification
Working and theoretical knowledge of slit lamp biomicrography, goniography, and endothelial cell photography
Working and theoretical knowledge of Humphrey Visual Fields and Goldmann Perimeter
Working knowledge of ophthalmic digital imaging systems
1-3 years experience demonstrating leadership and/or supervision of direct reports
1-3 years experience in public speaking, technical writing and/or teaching
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required including ability to compose communications and grammatically correct documents in a concise, logical, and organized manner
Proficient in computer software applications (Microsoft Office Programs)

Preferred

A Master's degree in biomedical photography with ophthalmic photography emphasis
Working and theoretical knowledge of indocyanine green angiography
Working and theoretical knowledge of Octopus visual fields
Previous experience in ophthalmic diagnostics supervision
Working knowledge of Ophthalmic Imaging Systems (OIS)
Basic knowledge of videography
Previous patient care experience
Previous experience with FORUM, Zeiss, Oculus, and Topcon
Previous EPIC experience
