ATHENA Consulting is an award-winning staffing firm serving state and local governments. They are currently recruiting a Fiscal Associate II to provide front-line assistance to taxpayers regarding payment processing, account inquiries, and general tax-related customer service.

Responsibilities
Take incoming calls from taxpayers regarding making payments, inquiring about balances, and asking general questions about notices received or correspondence from the Department of Revenue
Respond to taxpayer questions about refund status and assist in researching reasons for delayed or missing refunds using agency systems and established procedures
Direct taxpayers to the appropriate internal departments or staff so they can resolve issues related to their accounts, notices, or payments
Make outgoing calls to taxpayers to obtain additional information, resolve account discrepancies, and follow up on unpaid balances or missing documentation
Send clear, professional emails to internal and external customers to provide information, request documentation, and confirm resolutions or next steps
Use Department of Revenue (DOR) systems to research taxpayer accounts, answer questions, post and process payments, and document interactions
Provide in-person customer service at the public service window, assisting taxpayers with account inquiries, payments, notices, and general questions
Review and verify taxpayer information and documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable procedures and guidelines
Maintain accurate records of taxpayer interactions and transactions in accordance with department standards and retention requirements

Qualification
Required
High School diploma, required
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently; must be self-motivated
Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information in clear, simple language
Strong customer service skills, including patience, professionalism, and the ability to handle difficult or emotionally charged interactions
Ability to understand and adhere to the duties, methods, and procedures required by the position
Ability to navigate and use multiple computer systems and databases to research accounts and process transactions
Preferred
One year of customer service experience in a call center, public service, tax, finance, or related office environment, preferred
Experience working with financial, billing, or account management systems, preferred
