Director of Finance and Controller

Bay Area Community Health is seeking a Director of Finance and Controller to oversee financial operations and ensure compliance with financial reporting standards. This role involves budgeting, financial reporting, and collaboration with department directors to maintain accurate financial data and processes.

Responsibilities

Oversee the activities of the accounting department to ensure the accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports including internal and external monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Maintain internal controls and safeguards for cash, revenue and expenditures while ensuring the integrity of all systems, processes and data
Ensure TLD revenues and expenses are timely and accurately stated
Ensure adequate information is available to file IRS form 990 and oversee the process of tax preparation with our outside accounting firm
Ensure timely and accurate filing and payment of monthly sales and use taxes
Manage the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable
Prepare cash flow projections on an ongoing basis
Maintain fixed asset system and properly record depreciation of TLD fixed assets and the disposal of assets as needed
Collaborate with the Human Resources department, ensure timely payroll processing and funding. Accurately record bi-weekly payroll into the general ledger as incurred
Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations as needed
Oversee annual financial audit and act as liaison to independent audit firm to ensure audit process runs smoothly
Establish regular reporting for costs, expenses and funding sources associated with all capital projects, regardless of size. Monitor spending against budget and any potential cost overruns
Ensure new accounting standards are properly implemented and attend professional development on an annual basis to understand any new accounting guidance and literature
Track lease obligations and debt balances, including notification dates when a lease is about to expire
Set up restricted accounts in accordance with donor specifications and monitor for compliance. Provide donor schedules of accounts as requested
Maintain overall commercial and D&O insurance policies, discuss renewal strategies and price points with our insurance advisor, and assist with processing claims
Facilitate the receipt, sale, cash transfer and the accounting of donor stock gifts
Ensure proper management of all credit cards issued to employees, and control access as appropriate
Process wire transfers as needed and ensure all internal controls and approvals are obtained and documented
Complete and submit monthly, quarterly or annual required compliance documents to TLD’s banks related to our debt requirements; and any governmental permit or taxing agencies
Communicate financial insights clearly and effectively to non-financial stakeholders, promoting transparency and engagement
Applies strategic thinking to financial operations, planning ahead, setting clear goals, and driving results that align with BACH’s long-term mission
Ability to bring enthusiasm, positivity, and a supportive attitude to the workplace, inspiring continuous improvement and teamwork
Demonstrated ability to lead with integrity and professionalism, fostering trust and accountability
Attend workshops, training, and meetings as needed, and as requested

Required

BS in Accounting
MUST be tech savvy
A self-starter who is able to work independently and with departmental and financial teams
Ability to develop and train staff in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals; provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization, and create and promote a positive and supportive work environment
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to The Living Desert's mission
Strong attention to detail
Solid experience in managing accounting activities including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll and financial statement preparation
Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation
Able to work flexible hours as necessary to meet deadlines
Must have a valid California driver's license (to operate TLD's vehicles) with reliable transportation

Preferred

MBA preferred
CPA; or working towards; preferred
Proven track record in a financial role for 10+ years, preferred
Non-profit accounting including familiarity of form 990 preparation and management of restricted funds, preferred
Advanced knowledge of accounting software; solid Excel skills
Experience with Donor Perfect (CRM), Galaxy Gateway (POS), Intacct (Financial) and/or Adaptive (Budgeting) software; preferred
Experience in health care finance, including third party reimbursement mechanisms and Federal guidelines on budgeting and reporting
Knowledge of federal/state/county regulations for grants and contracts
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party policies and procedures
