Executive Director
The Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance (PWA) is a charitable non-profit organization committed to restoring and protecting the ecological health of the Petitcodiac River and Shepody Bay watersheds. The Executive Director will provide vision, leadership, and overall management of the organization, ensuring effective delivery of programs and supporting a positive workplace while securing funding for sustainability.

Responsibilities
Prepare a comprehensive annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors
Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly or quarterly cashflow of the organization
Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board of Directors
Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting practices are followed
Provide the Board of Directors with comprehensive regular reports on the organization’s financial position, including revenues, expenditures, cashflow, and deviations from the approved budget
Provide overall leadership in advancing PWA’s mission and strategic plan
Champion PWA’s six priority areas: watershed health, communications, financial resources, human resources, process improvements, and governance
Guide the implementation of the Watershed Management Plan and ensure projects are scientifically sound and community-focused
Work closely with managers and the broader staff team to set clear priorities and achieve results
Oversee planning, delivery, and evaluation of programs such as water quality monitoring, restoration, and community engagement initiatives
Develop and strengthen partnerships with governments, Indigenous communities, non-profits, academia, and local residents
Represent the organization publicly and serve as a positive ambassador for watershed health
Secure funding through grants, donations, and partnerships to sustain and grow the organization
Prioritize the development of core, flexible funding to strengthen long-term sustainability
Diversify revenue sources by cultivating relationships with individual donors, businesses, and foundations
Provide oversight of financial stewardship, ensuring resources are managed responsibly
Lead a team of 8-12 staff, with direct supervision of the Project Manager and the Office Manager
Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery; support the Project Manager in recruiting and hiring staff to meet these requirements
Oversee the implementation of human resources policies, procedures, and practices
Together with the Project Manager, support and mentor the staff team, fostering a positive, collaborative, and inclusive workplace
Encourage professional development and build capacity across the team
Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting annual performance reviews
Discipline staff when necessary using appropriate techniques; release staff when necessary using appropriate and legally defensible procedures
Strengthen volunteer engagement and recognition
Implement efficient systems, ethical use of technology, and continuous process improvements
Maintain clear systems for reporting, filing, and accountability
Liaise with and support the Board of Directors with strong governance practices, including planning, reporting, and committee development. Advise the Board of any issues or risks that could affect the organization
Qualification
Required
Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g., environmental science, biology, natural resource management, or related social sciences). Equivalent experience will also be valued
3–5 years of progressive experience in non-profit leadership, environmental programming, or community-based organizations
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse partners and funders
Experience in fundraising, donor relations, or grant writing
Strategic planning and organizational development experience
Bilingualism (English/French)
