Cleared Senior/Principal R&D Systems Engineer - W80-5 Surveillance & Reliability, NM/CA, Onsite
Sandia National Laboratories is the nation’s premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation, with teams of specialists focused on cutting-edge work in a broad array of areas. The W80-5 Systems Engineering team is seeking a Senior/Principal R&D Systems Engineer to support system design, integration, qualification, and fielding activities of the W80-5, collaborating with various departments to contribute to the Nuclear Deterrence Mission.

Responsibilities
Present at technical design reviews and programmatic meetings
Work across the System Engineering team and coordinate with Surveillance departments to establish the W80-5 surveillance strategy
Employ analytical thinking to work through ambiguous problems with a multi-disciplinary team
Conduct trade studies and own key decisions based upon performance data, cost, and schedule constraints
Close interaction with key individuals across the W80-5, NNSA, partner Design Agency Labs, and DOE Production Agencies
Qualification
Required
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
Active DOE Q-level security clearance
Preferred
Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLNL) and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO)
Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects
Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline plus 4 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's in a STEM discipline plus 8 years of relevant experience
Demonstrated experience in developing positive relationships with other Sandia organizations, external partners, customers, and stakeholders
Experience in planning and executing the evaluation of stockpile components, subsystems, and material
Demonstrated team experience: effective leadership, delegation, teamwork, negotiation, conflict resolution
Experience developing and implementing system engineering processes
Knowledge and experience with ND systems and subsystems
Demonstrated ability to develop products within the Nuclear Weapon Realize Product Subsystem
Excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare clearly written reports and deliver well-articulated briefings
