Staff Attorney
The Mississippi Board of Pharmacy is seeking a Staff Attorney responsible for handling complex legal matters including fraud and regulatory compliance. The role involves advising the Board on disciplinary actions, preparing legal documents, and representing the state in court.
Responsibilities
Strong analytical and interpretive skills to navigate complex legal issues, including state and federal regulatory compliance, and contractual matters
Effective communication abilities to foster successful relationships with Board members, staff and external legal counsel
Ability to effectively advise the Board on potential disciplinary actions and civil litigation
Skilled in preparing and presenting clear and persuasive legal documents, instruments, and drafting regulations, legislation, and briefs for administrative and executive decisions
Other administrative matters as required
Responsible for handling more complex or sensitive legal matters including cases concerning fraud, federal or state laws and regulations, and state leases and contracts
Implementing state procedures; and supervising legal support personnel
Analyzing and interpreting state, federal and agency laws and regulations; preparing documents and instruments for administrative and executive decisions and actions; responding to subpoenas and requests for public records; drafting regulations and legislation; compliance with the Administrative Procedures Act; performing legal research and preparing legal briefs; presentation of administrative cases to the Board for potential discipline of a licensee or permittee; advising the Board on litigation and other administrative proceedings; and representing the state or agencies in court or any tribunal
Qualification
Required
Strong analytical and interpretive skills to navigate complex legal issues, including state and federal regulatory compliance, and contractual matters

Ability to effectively advise the Board on potential disciplinary actions and civil litigation

Preferred
Membership of the Mississippi State Bar Association with 5 years of experience
Experience serving as legal counsel for a state agency, board, or commission
Experience with the administrative hearing process of a state licensing agency or board
