Stationary Engineer (Facilities and Real Estate)

Responsibilities
Start, stop and operate boilers, chillers, combustion turbine/generator and related equipment consistent with a central power plant environment
Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of boilers, chillers, combustion turbine/generator and plant equipment on a regular basis
Test boiler and cooling tower water condition and add chemical treatment to maintain proper limits and to prevent deposits or corrosion
Check boiler safety and shut down equipment
Disassemble, inspect, reassemble and clean equipment
Understand and become proficient in the operation and use of all plant software packages
Make rounds and keep equipment and plant logs
Monitor and log fuel oil and gas consumption
Take and log fuel oil tank levels during fuel oil burning operations
Attend staff meetings, training seminars and in-service plant equipment training sessions as scheduled
Performs assigned duties in a manner that fosters initiative, cooperation, problem solving and team building
Makes recommendations to update, renew or institute current or new practices or policies within the plant
Perform other functions and duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must possess State of Maryland 1st Grade Stationary Engineer's License
Five years of experience working in a central power plant with high pressure boilers, large centrifugal chillers and auxiliary equipment
Basic computer skills desired
Must be willing to work overtime
Must be willing to work rotating shift work
Must have a valid driver's license
Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform physical work in a hot environment
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula
Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
Communication skills using the spoken word
Ability to see within normal parameters
Ability to hear within normal range
Ability to move about
Occasionally lifting, carrying objects weighing 60 lbs. or less
Capable of climbing ladders to access roof mounted equipment
