Responsibilities

Assists in the development of project proposals, plans and protocols for the peanut disease research program
Assists with the management and maintenance of Official Variety Trials such as peanut, small grains, and others as needed
Collects research data including disease ratings and yield parameters by traveling to AAES research stations across Alabama
Assists with recording, compiling, and processing data and research records. Some data analysis may be required
Documents research results and observations in writing as well as presenting results to others as needed
May assist in the preparation of research results for publication or presentations at professional meetings and conferences
May assist in training/supervising undergraduate and graduate students in the field
Interacts with a variety of individuals and groups for AAES field days and presentations
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Plant Pathology, Entomology, Agronomy, Soil Science, or closely related field; no experience required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Plant Pathology, Entomology, Agronomy, Soil Science, or closely related field and 2 years of experience in scientific research related to plant pathology, agronomy, or similar field
Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, and analyze data from plot-scale research trials
Ability to think analytically, ability to work independently and with others, highly organized, ability to communicate research findings to a diverse group of stakeholders, and ability to or learn how to perform basic statistical analysis
Must be able to lift at least fifty pounds, operate farm equipment, and walk up to three miles a day, as field work is a large component of this position
Frequent travel throughout the state of Alabama will be required, and the individual must be able to haul large machinery
Familiarity with Microsoft Office
A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment

Preferred

Basic understanding of plant pathology principles
Knowledge and experience with row crop research
Certified Pesticide Applicator License (D&R Preferred) or willingness to obtain one within the first year of employment
