HR Generalist

Responsibilities

Manage full-cycle recruitment for remote roles, from job posting through offer
Partner with hiring managers on select in-person roles, including interview participation
Ensure hiring practices are compliant, equitable, and aligned with organizational standards
Ensure that all candidates embody SPACE
Own onboarding for remote employees, including documentation, systems access, equipment, orientation, and required trainings
Serve as a primary HR contact throughout the employee lifecycle, including role changes, leaves, and separations
Manage employee exits, including documentation, final pay coordination, benefits transitions, unemployment claims, and exit interviews
Maintain accurate, confidential employee records
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits questions
Partner with benefits vendors to manage enrollments, changes, open enrollment, and employee support
Administer all leaves of absence (FMLA, CFRA, PFL, PDL, and other statutory or company-approved leaves)
Oversee ACA compliance, including tracking, reporting (1095, Safe Harbor, etc.), and timely benefit offers
Maintain working knowledge of all company-offered benefits
Manage employee relations matters from intake through resolution, including documentation and investigations
Advise managers on policy interpretation, performance concerns, and corrective action
Escalate complex or high-risk matters to HR leadership as needed
Support and administer performance review processes for remote and in-person employees
Assist with coaching conversations, corrective action, and Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs)
Ensure performance practices are documented and applied consistently
Coordinate and deliver HR-related trainings, including compliance and manager training
Support first-time and people managers with practical guidance on supervision, boundaries, and policy application
Assist with rollout and communication of HR policies and updates
Support organization-wide engagement initiatives that promote and uphold connection, inclusion, and authenticity
Gather employee feedback, identify trends, and share insights with HR leadership
Partner with leadership on engagement strategies across remote and field teams
Execute day-to-day HR policies in compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
Maintain strong proficiency in the Employee Handbook and HR procedures
Stay current on California employment law and support policy updates as needed
Maintain accurate HR data and prepare reports related to headcount, turnover, benefits, leaves, compliance, and employee relations
Serve as the primary point of contact for workers’ compensation claims
Manage injury reporting, claims coordination, employee communication, and return-to-work processes
Track injury trends and escalate concerns to HR leadership

Required

Proven experience as an HR Generalist or similar role with broad HR ownership
Strong working knowledge of California employment law and multi-state experience
Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion
Comfortable making decisions, applying policy consistently, and escalating when appropriate
Familiar with or working knowledge of Paylocity, Asana, Slack, Google Suite, Excel, and Airtable
Strong organizational, documentation, and data analysis skills
Ability to balance empathy with structure and organizational priorities
Self-directed, disciplined, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, people-centered environment
