Paralegal- District Attorney Office

San Bernardino County is recruiting for Paralegals who will work for the District Attorney's office. Paralegals will assist the Deputy District Attorneys with the preparation of cases for both criminal and civil prosecutions, including legal research and document preparation.

Responsibilities

Assist the Deputy District Attorneys with the preparation of cases for both criminal and civil prosecutions
Work with attorneys to analyze cases and identify legal questions
Research legal sources such as statutes, ordinances, regulations, and court decisions
Review police reports and draft criminal and civil pleadings, jury instructions, verdict forms, and other litigation related documents
Work with other staff and agencies to obtain, organize, and provide discovery
Review transcriptions, manage electronic and digital files and evidence, and compile and organize trial exhibits

Required

Possess a certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association
Possess a certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a degree from, a post-secondary institution that requires the successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) units in law-related courses that has been accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau of Private Post-secondary and Vocational Education
Possess a baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in any subject from an accredited college or university, a minimum of one (1) year of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three (3) years, and a written declaration from this attorney stating the applicant is qualified to perform legal tasks

Preferred

Detail-oriented and able to work effectively with both attorneys and support staff to meet work objectives
Criminal or civil law experience with trial preparation, motion writing, and discovery procedures
Proficient in managing case-related data using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Bilingual skills are desirable but not required
