Ophthalmic Clinic Scribe- San Antonio, TX

This role plays a critical part in ensuring high-quality patient care, efficient operations, and accurate medical records within a fast-paced ophthalmology practice.

Responsibilities

Review patient charts and records from referring physicians to gain knowledge of diagnoses and planned diagnostics
Communicate effectively with physicians and clinical staff regarding patient care plans
Assess and document special treatment requirements, such as A/C taps for lesions near the optic nerve
Ensure required medications and diagnostic tools are available at each clinic location based on scheduled appointments
Accurately document physician verbalizations during examinations, including chief complaint updates, assessments, treatment plans, justifications, and timely chart closure
Perform accurate ICD-10 and CPT coding within patient charts
Communicate dilation needs to clinic staff and administer dilation drops to pediatric patients when appropriate
Observe patient and physician interactions and assist during exams, including providing medications, instruments, and support during medical emergencies
Monitor patient verbal and non-verbal cues and reinforce physician instructions through verbal explanation, written instructions, or patient education materials as needed
Communicate effectively with patients regarding diagnoses and respond to patient questions
Accurately document chart amendments in accordance with practice protocols
Maintain efficient clinic flow, including confirmation of insurance authorizations prior to treatment
Facilitate communication between physicians and staff to minimize disruptions, including identifying patients who may need to be rescheduled
Alert physicians to patient-related forms requiring completion
Escort patients to the front desk following exams and ensure follow-up appointments are scheduled before departure
Ensure exam rooms are properly stocked, safe, and prepared for patient use
Notify physicians of changes to the daily schedule, including emergencies
Perform other duties as assigned

High school diploma required
Strong aptitude and willingness to learn
Tech savvy with the ability to learn electronic medical record systems quickly
