2026 Summer Intern - Commonwealth's Attorney

Chesterfield County is responsible for prosecuting felony and certain misdemeanor offenses through the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. They are seeking a Summer Intern to assist prosecutors with legal research, observe court proceedings, and participate in educational field trips related to the criminal justice system.

Responsibilities

Assist prosecutors in preparing for Court through legal research
Spend time observing Court
Assist with file processing and preparation
Join field trips to Department of Forensic Science, Medical Examiner, etc
Perform other work as required

Required

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
Minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8
Ability to participate in the full 10-week program
Exhibit a commitment to public service
Genuine interest in learning about public administration
Pre-employment drug testing required
FBI criminal background check required
Education/degree verification required
Strong research skills
Respect for confidentiality and sensitive information
Good social skills
At least 18 years of age or older
Ability to pass a more stringent criminal background check due to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's CJIS Security Policy
