Responsibilities
Enters data to record and compute grower product by crop, date, block and weight on a weekly basis
Assists Field Manager maintain a seed inventory and generate invoices
Arranges for transportation of crops to processing plant
May assist in coordinating between contract growers and plant production department on implementation of planting/harvest schedules to insure adequate smooth flow of product to plant
Inspects growing crops for evidence of disease and insect damage and recommends corrective measures
Supervises harvesting crew
Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulations relating to food safety and personnel safety such as FDA, USDA, OSHA, and TOSHA. Complies with all other regulations and laws affecting the company (business law, trade secrets, personnel practices, etc.)
Follows all Company policies and procedures, which include SOPs, Employee Handbook, Food Quality Policies, GMP Handbook, HACPP, and Pictsweet Safety Procedures
Assist in directing subordinate personnel in the maintenance and repair of harvest machinery and equipment
Enforces company rules, such as attendance, food safety, production quality, safety, GMPs and efficiency. Disciplines subordinates when non-compliance occurs
Train subordinate personnel on SOPs and ensures compliance with procedures
Maintains appropriate mechanical records and reports
Fosters and maintains positive employee relations with all subordinate personnel as well as organizational colleagues
Ensures a safe work place. Follows Pictsweet Hazardous Communication Plan, Lockout Tag out Program, Process Safety Management Plan, and all applicable safety standards
Clears application of pesticides (CDMS program)
Adheres to company’s Bio-terrorism Program
Performs all other duties as assigned by management
Serves as back up for Field Manager when he is absent or unable to perform his duties
Qualification
Required
Must be knowledgeable of food processing principles, quality control, HACCP, GMP, and personnel management
Must be a proven leader, with the ability to organize and direct subordinate personnel
Must be experienced in preventive maintenance programs
Must possess an advanced understanding of agriculture, entomology and harvest equipment
Must possess good communication skills (verbal and written)
Must be bilingual, English/Spanish
Must be able to work with little or no supervision
Be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
Must be able to work extended hours (evenings and dawn)
Must be able to travel
Preferred
College Degree in Entomology, Agriculture, or Horticulture preferred, but 4 – 8 years experience in food industry may be substituted for a degree
