Managing Director

The Commerce Operations Foundation is an industry-led initiative focused on defining the interface between selling and fulfillment channels. They are seeking a Managing Director to drive the adoption of the onX specification, activate membership, and serve as the public face of the organization.

Responsibilities

Drive Spec Adoption (Primary)
Build strong, direct relationships with member companies
Conduct regular outreach (calls, meetings, follow-ups) to understand blockers and push adoption of the standard
Act as a partner and guide to help members move from intent to implementation
Hold members accountable - politely but persistently - for adoption commitments
Activate and Market Success (Secondary)
Turn adoption into momentum through storytelling
Drive consistent external visibility (e.g., 'Brand X is live on onX')
Publish frequent updates, announcements, and proof points - ideally daily during peak momentum
Coordinate webinars, case studies, and ecosystem spotlights
Grow Membership (Tertiary)
Expand the foundation with high-leverage members
Position onX as the obvious neutral standard for the ecosystem
Be the Public Face of the Commerce Operations Foundation
Represent the foundation in press, announcements, and media
Serve as the named spokesperson on press releases
Host and participate in webinars, panels, and industry discussions
Help shape and carry the narrative of onX externally
Be the Force Multiplier
Create urgency and momentum in a volunteer-driven organization
Push members to act, collaborate, and ship
Keep the ecosystem moving forward even when no one else has time

Qualification

Required

Senior, credible, and networked individual who values influence and impact over traditional compensation
Comfortable talking to CEOs, founders, and senior executives
Technically fluent enough to understand specs, integrations, and architecture
Able to translate technical progress into clear business value
Strong relationship-builder and persistent follow-through operator
Equal parts partner manager and lightweight architect
Confident public communicator (written, spoken, live)
Part-time role (flexible structure, outcome-driven)
12-month commitment

Preferred

A seasoned operator or executive in a late-career transition, open to one more meaningful, high-impact initiative
Someone between roles who wants to spend a year building a powerful public presence and industry network
A senior leader on a sabbatical who wants a high-impact, visible, time-bound commitment
