YMCA Camp Silver Creek - Assistant Director of Programming 2026

Family YMCA of Marion and Polk Counties is dedicated to strengthening communities and is seeking an Assistant Director of Programming for Camp Silver Creek. This role involves overseeing camp activities, managing staff schedules, and ensuring high-quality programming for campers.

Responsibilities

Supervises Outpost Lead, Waterfront Director, and Arts & Crafts Lead
Oversees the planning and scheduling of all activities, including but not limited to: Skill Groups, Choice Time, Campfires, Twilight Games, Rags, Candlelight (with the Waterfront Director and the Leadership Team)
Running the Camp Silver Creek Social Media during the summer
Monitoring weather forecasts, and creating backup and alternate plans for possible weather-affected changes in programming
Planning staff appreciation events and activities
Managing Lost & Found, including regular checking of names, making daily L&F announcements, and organization of items/bins. Bundling end of week for donation run
Assist in conducting staff and program observations, providing feedback to ensure high-quality programming and staff performance
Support the reset and preparation of camp between sessions, ensuring all areas are cleaned, organized, and ready before staff departure on Saturdays
Assist with curfew and bed checks to maintain a safe and structured overnight camp environment
Provide coaching and mentorship to staff, fostering professional growth, teamwork, and adherence to camp values
Participates in required mid-season leadership planning and training sessions to support program quality, staff alignment, and end-of-season readiness

Required

At least 18 years of age
Minimum of one prior summer in an overnight camp leadership role
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with staff, campers, and leadership
Experience planning, organizing, and scheduling large group activities
Ability to adapt programming based on weather, safety concerns, and camper needs
Proven leadership and supervisory experience, particularly in overseeing program staff
Creative problem-solving skills to enhance and improve camp programming
Strong organizational skills to manage camp schedules, supplies, and logistics efficiently
Ability to respond appropriately to safety and emergency situations
Completion of all training and onboarding prior to program start date or training due dates. Training is provided as needed after hiring
Must be CPR and First Aid certified or willing to become certified within the first 30 days of employment prior to camp start. (Certification classes available upon employment.)
Current Oregon Food Handler's Certification, or ability to obtain certification
Must be available during all of the following date: June 7 - June 13 (Program Staff Retreat), June 14 - June 20 (Mandatory All-Staff Training), June 21 - August 23 (Camp Season & Move-Out)
Must be physically capable of observing and listening for stressful situations at all times
Must be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds
Must be able to quickly reach a person and/or situation to prevent harm
Capable of effective and appropriate mental, emotional and social responses in a constantly changing, youth centered environment
