AVP Accounting Operations
Sagicor Life Insurance Company USA is seeking an AVP Accounting Operations to ensure accurate maintenance of statutory accounting records for Sagicor USA, Inc. and its subsidiaries. The role involves leadership in Procure-To-Pay and Investment Accounting processes, compliance with US statutory reporting requirements, and managing the General Ledger system.

Responsibilities
Manage and maintain the Company's General Ledger (GL) system; ensure integrity of its master data, transaction data, period-end close data, and audit trails. Confirm that GL master accounts are directly supported by subsidiary accounts in GL, other business systems, spreadsheets, or external parties. Manage the Chart of Accounts and all auxiliary accounting data
Leads the annual, quarterly, and monthly closing process for key financial statement areas which include but are not limited to: investments, accounts payable and accruals, and general ledger accounting including general and administrative expenses, premium and property taxes, fixed assets and intercompany accounts
Ensures compliance with US statutory reporting requirements and US tax regulations
Oversees compliance with internal control process and ensures that those processes are well designed and documented
Leads and coordinates the preparation and review of general ledger account reconciliations and disclosure footnotes for US STAT financial statements
Serves as subject matter expert on key accounting areas
Provides variance commentary and trend analysis on the key financial statement areas for review meetings, board reporting, and other ad hoc reporting as needed
Communicates with auditors and ensure compliance with audit deadlines
Coordinates with advisors for premium and property tax filings for SLIC and other US entities
Maintains familiarity with changes to existing IFRS and US Statutory accounting standards
Oversees investment accounting and reporting for US Statutory filings and supports the reporting of investment information in IFRS financials and disclosure notes
Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives. Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
Leads mentors, and coaches the statutory team with responsibility for overall team performance
GL Accounting, Procure-To-Pay, Investment Accounting teams management, hiring, ongoing personnel evaluation and development
Ensures proper allocation of work within the department
Integrity of the Company's general ledger system, period data, and outputs
Timely, complete, and accurate reporting to Controller, Executive Team, and Process Owners regarding issues surrounding accounting, finance, and budgeting activities
Coordination with other finance staff and Executive Team in the fulfillment of closing activities
Define, maintain and timely update of audit trails, service levels, procedures, and controls
Ongoing process and system improvement initiatives
Qualification
Required
At least 15 years of prior relevant experience including a mix of public accounting and life & annuity insurance industry experience required
Previous experience with US STAT for Life and Annuity products is mandatory, and IFRS experience will be considered as a plus
Prior management experience leading teams of 10+
Good understanding of general and insurance/reinsurance accounting under US STAT
Prior experience with investment accounting / Clearwater investment reporting software
CPA credentials are ‘a must have' for the role
Bachelor / master's degree in accounting or finance required
Strong technical accounting skills - knowledge of US STAT accounting standards and previous experience drafting technical accounting memos and position papers
Excellent leadership skills and management capabilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Understanding of insurance laws and regulations
Must hold a valid passport within one year of expiration
Preferred
IFRS experience will be considered as a plus
Good knowledge of global and North America insurance markets, products and business solutions would be a plus
