The City of New York's Fire Department (FDNY) is the largest and busiest emergency response agency in the United States. They are seeking a Supervising Inspector to perform technical inspections in homeless shelters to ensure compliance with safety regulations and to represent the FDNY in legal matters related to fire safety.

Responsibilities

Performing technical inspections in DHS owned, operated, or funded Homeless Shelters to ensure compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations
Conduct special inspections when directed
Maintain thorough knowledge of the Administrative Code and various laws
Correctly identify hazardous and emergency situations and take appropriate action
Maintain a professional and courteous manner in the performance of their official duties while dealing with the public and FDNY employees
Represent the FDNY in the preparation and enforcement of the Administrative Code and other sections of the law
Process all the legal requirements in the issuance of summons, violation orders, and FDNY Summonses
Perform related duties as needed

Required

Five (5) years of full-time experience in or more of the following: the manufacture or storage of explosives or flammables; the development of safety standards for the manufacture or storage of such materials; the inspection of premises where such materials are manufactured, stored or houses to detect potential fire and explosion hazards; the design, installation, operation, repair and testing of sprinkler systems, standpipes, or other fire detection or fire extinguishing systems; or Education and/or experience equivalent to '1' above. Education from an accredited college or technical institution with specialization in fire science technology, chemistry, physics or engineering may be substituted for the experience requirement on the basis of one year of education (30 credits) for one year of experience, up to a maximum of 4 years
A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York
