Responsibilities

Oversee laboratory records, documentation, SOP's, chemical inventories, and operational logs
Oversee maintenance, calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation
Manage procurement, ordering, and inventory of supplies, chemicals, and equipment
Oversee laboratory records, documentation, SOP's, chemical inventories, and operational logs
Serve as primary contact with clients regarding sample intake and analysis
Oversee laboratory safety practices and ensure compliance with EH&S
Participate in laboratory analysis
Working as the QA/QC officer to ensure all samples meet rigorous NELAP requirements
Ensuring a clean lab and functional workflow is maintained
Training laboratory personnel on proper laboratory and NELAP protocol
Ensuring yearly quality testing requirements are completed and met
Working with a NELAP accreditation body to pursue and maintain certification
Ensuring accurate and organized data recording practices across the research team
Support research practices by participating in field work
Assist with the yearly field methods class and assist students in assessing instrumentation needs and determining the best procedures for their projects

Required

Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Master's degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience

Preferred

Masters degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Soil and Water Science or a closely related field and at least one year of relevant experience
Run Total Phosphorus (TP), soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), and Total Nitrogen (TN) water samples on a spectrophotometer
Experience with IACUC and writing IACUC protocols
Ability to follow standard operating procedures and properly document all procedures, Sterile laboratory technique
Develop research design and methods and conduct these experiments in the laboratory
Write reports and scientific papers that describe and interpret research findings
Work cooperatively with other research labs at the University of Florida and elsewhere
Laboratory maintenance: maintain lab in good order, maintain supplies and equipment
Review and update safety and compliance requirements
Knowledge of principles of soil and water chemistry, salt marsh ecosystems, mangrove ecosystems, geology, biology, and fresh and salt water systems
Skills in the use of various computerized laboratory equipment
Ability to maintain accurate lab records and to handle data efficiently
Ability to effectively work with co-workers, to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
Ability to communicate with co-workers, professional staff, residents, and clinicians
