Responsibilities
Underwrite High Net Worth clients with complex, uniquely constructed properties in challenging Wildfire CAT-exposed areas to determine eligibility
Evaluate wildfire risk using third-party tools, risk modeling outputs, aerial imagery, inspection reports, and local market knowledge
Make confident underwriting decisions in nuanced scenarios involving: High elevation / remote access, Steep slope and drainage issues, Seasonal occupancy / secondary homes, Roofing, vents, ember resistance, defensible space, and vegetation management
Participate in building / refining underwriting guidelines for our target markets
Partner closely with leadership and operations to scale underwriting workflows without compromising risk quality
Collaborate with distribution partners / brokers and support thoughtful risk communication and market development
Help shape inspection standards, mitigation requirements, and eligibility thresholds
Support portfolio monitoring, risk concentration management, and reinsurance-facing underwriting narratives
Bring an entrepreneurial mindset: solve problems, create processes, and help build systems as we grow
Qualification
Required
5+ years underwriting experience in Private Client / High Net Worth / Ultra High Net Worth homeowners insurance
Strong track record underwriting risks in mountain states and wildfire-driven markets (examples: CO, MT, WY, ID, UT, NM, CA mountain regions)
Deep knowledge of underwriting wildfire exposure, mitigation strategies, construction/resilience factors, and field inspection best practices
Highly independent underwriter who can work well with a team and communicate clearly with leadership
Strong judgment, strong writing, and the ability to explain risk decisions to internal and external stakeholders
Comfortable in a high-performance environment where speed and discipline are essential
Preferred
Experience with wildfire hazard scoring tools / data sources and inspection platforms
Familiarity with reinsurance conversations and how underwriting decisions affect portfolio and treaty outcomes
Experience building or revising underwriting guidelines / appetite frameworks
Experience working with brokers serving UHNW clientele (high-touch, high expectation, complex properties)
