Responsibilities

Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly service
Assists customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and offering food preparation ideas
Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, intercom, and one-on-one interaction
Plans daily operations and monitors production processes following company procedures and profitability goals
Trims, cuts, wraps, trays, and displays meat. Builds meat and seafood displays; rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product. Ensures department cleanliness
Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays. May oversee operation and maintenance of meat cooler, freezer, and butcher block
Follows and maintains department standards for handling quick-sale items
Runs cutting tests on meat products to monitor profitability
Ensures trim specifications and cutting standards are followed. Maintains proper temperatures during preparation, display, and storage
Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to department employees
Monitors employee productivity and evaluates performance
Schedules employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels
Possesses full knowledge of duties performed by all department employees; assists with cutting, grinding, and wrapping fresh meat
Understands opening and closing procedures for the department
Trains employees on store policies, sales procedures, and record-keeping requirements
Identifies and develops employees with potential for advancement
Maintains working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook
Initiates personnel actions including interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions
Prepares sales and inventory reports; conducts physical inventory every 4 weeks
Controls inventory to ensure adequate quantity, quality, and freshness; maintains inventory levels per division directives. Stocks and rotates product; organizes meat cooler
Controls shrink and cost
Implements correct product preparation techniques
Operates equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, grinders, saws, saw blades, and cubers
Accurately completes and monitors daily log sheets, Production Charts, Meat Grinding Logs, Sales and Labor reports, and other required paperwork
Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product. Follows temperature and storage guidelines and proper packaging techniques
Ensures proper temperature levels for all products. Ensures accurate pricing and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL). Complies with labeling laws, federal/state regulations, company policies, and code dating requirements
Complies with all workplace safety rules and regulations
Ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, cutting room, and display areas, including code date compliance
Implements emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions
Attends and participates in sales meetings; communicates sales goals, performance, and opportunities to employees
Ensures compliance with company grooming standards and dress code
Performs all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity
Performs other necessary and required duties

Required

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; maintains professional demeanor with customers and co-workers
Basic knowledge of perishability, seasonality, product conditioning, handling, safety, and sanitation
Solid understanding of company practices and Meat Department policies
Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver items up to approximately 80 lbs. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling of loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks
Manual dexterity and strong hand-eye coordination
Mental alertness required for safe and accurate work. Knowledge of basic math, weights, and measures
Knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, handling, sanitation, labeling, and department procedures
Operates telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, grinders, saws, saw blades, and cubers. Uses cleaning supplies and equipment
Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices
May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule varies. Good attendance required
Exposure to potential hazards associated with equipment and work aids
