Nurse Intern, Ortho Trauma Unit
Orlando Health is a healthcare organization seeking a Nurse Intern for their Orthopedic Trauma Unit. This role provides nursing students with hands-on experience and the opportunity to support patient care under the supervision of licensed Registered Nurses.

Responsibilities
Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health
Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change without packing of wounds; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy); and tracheostomy care
Performs increase or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients as assigned
Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs
Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team
Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care as part of handoff for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients
Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality
Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures
Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team
Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients
Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines
Transports and assists patients through the admission and discharge process. Transports Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures
Maintains a safe and clean environment
Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members
Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility
Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests
May have limited access to areas storing medications
Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members
Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
Qualification
Required
Nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program at a college or university
Must have completed a minimum of one semester of nursing clinical rotations
Proof of continued enrollment in accredited pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year
Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification
