Responsibilities
Processing FOIL requests
Corresponding with requestors about the status and progress of their FOIL requests
Keeping track of deadlines
Contacting bureaus with responsive documents and following up
Using case management and other internal systems to record and track requests
Reviewing and supervising the work of non-attorney staff
Redacting records
Preparing records for production
Conducting legal research and writing
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Current New York State Bar member in good standing
NYS resident as of the effective date of employment with NCDAO
Prior experience and/or knowledge of FOIL and/or FOIA
Scrupulous attention to deadlines and details
Personable in interactions with legal and non-legal staff
Two-year commitment to employment with NCDAO
Preferred
Document review/production experience
Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar PDF readers, Word, Excel, document review software, and electronic databases
Strong legal research, writing, and technology skills
Demonstrated interest in criminal law or appellate work, although not required
