DEPARTMENT SECRETARY- FULL TIME

Cooper University Health Care is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving residents and visitors throughout Cape May County. They are seeking a Department Secretary to manage front line operations of patient flow and referrals in busy cardiac, pulmonary, and peripheral arterial disease programs. The role involves scheduling, insurance verification, and patient registration using EPIC and other systems.

Responsibilities

Responsible for front line operation of patient flow and referrals in extremely busy cardiac, pulmonary and peripheral arterial disease programs/supervised exercise training (PAD/SET)
Need to be extremely familiar with all qualifying diagnoses for both cardiac, pulmonary and PAD/SET rehab. Knowledge of medical terminology and lab
Verify insurance information for all referrals using EPIC, Insurance Portals (i.e., Navinet, Availity, PEAR, etc), or calling insurance company to verify copay and coinsurance amounts
Work with staff for schedules
Update staff calendars in EPIC
Call patients to schedule correct rehabilitation program. Inform the patient of copay or coinsurance
If outside referral, must be able to transcribe referral into EPIC for scheduling
Scan pertinent documentation needed for insurance authorizations or precertification
Complete patient registration in EPIC which includes completing any incomplete tasks listed in the sidebar. If patient is new to Cooper create new Medical Record and complete all required information
Complete patient chart and review with the assigned staff member

Required

Minimum three years Patient Access Clerk experience in a fast-paced office environment, with expert knowledge of medical terminology, EPIC, Microsoft Office Suite, and highly advanced computer skills
Must possess superior organizational, time management, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work with little to no supervision
Ability to logically and independently plan and organize work assignments
Experience in verification of insurance benefits, eligibility, and obtaining prior authorizations, billing and registration
Must possess self-initiative to complete projects and achieve high standards of performance
Ability to make progress on multiple assignments under time constraints
High school graduate
BLS

Preferred

Office Manager experience preferred
BA / BS preferred
