Seasonal Wildfire Defensible Space Inspector
The County of Marin Fire Department is seeking a Seasonal Wildfire Defensible Space Inspector to assist with fire prevention duties. This temporary position focuses on community outreach and providing guidance on actions to reduce wildfire risks, including data collection and public education.

Responsibilities
Provides home hardening, defensible space fire prevention and fire hazard reduction information to the public, department personnel, and other agencies
Utilizes electronic devices to input and collect data
Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files, and records
Composes letters and reports based on field notes
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of basic safety procedures when operating a vehicle or other procedure related to the work
Knowledge of arithmetic, including decimals and fractions
Knowledge of basic record keeping methods
Ability to read, interpret, explain technical documents such as maps, diagrams, and textbooks
Ability to use initiative and independent judgement within established procedural guidelines
Ability to drive safely and skillfully
Ability to use various computer systems, programs, and apps
Ability to operate motor vehicles, tools, mechanical equipment and machinery
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in written form
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public, sometimes in challenging, stressful situations
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers
In accordance with State legal requirements, applicant must be at least 18 years old by the time of hire
High school graduation (or equivalent GED)
A current valid California Driver's Class C (Basic) License
Ability to successfully pass Pre-Employment Conditions, such as controlled substance screen, medical exam, and complete a request for LiveScan
