Government Relations Coordinator
The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) is a leading trade association for the recreational boating industry. The Government Relations Coordinator supports the Government Relations & Advocacy team by managing administrative tasks, facilitating communication, and assisting in advocacy efforts.
Responsibilities
Provide daily administrative support to the SVP, including proactive calendar management, meeting preparation, travel arrangements, and expense processing
Serve as a professional point of contact between the SVP and GR/advocacy team, NMMA members, congressional offices, federal agencies, and coalition partners
Prepare briefing documents, talking points, and meeting materials for internal leadership and board-level discussions
Coordinate departmental meetings, manage agendas, track deadlines, and follow up on action items
Maintain departmental files, databases, contact lists, and shared resources
Support collaboration between Government Relations & Advocacy and Marketing & Communications to ensure aligned advocacy messaging and public affairs efforts
Assist in drafting and organizing materials for advocacy campaigns, grassroots mobilization, coalition activity, and policy updates
Help track ongoing advocacy priorities, legislative timelines, and departmental deliverables
Assist with preparation and onsite support for NMMA’s American Boating Congress, the association’s annual advocacy event featuring industry briefings, policy discussions, and Capitol Hill meetings with lawmakers
Help coordinate logistics policy briefings, stakeholder meetings, and DC-based advocacy events
Manage travel, scheduling, and meeting coordination for GR team engagements in Washington, nationally, and internationally
Process invoices, purchase orders, and vendor payments in partnership with NMMA Finance
Track advocacy-related contracts, from routing and execution to renewal timelines and filing, coordinating across Finance and GR/Advocacy
Maintain records for budgets, sponsorships, vendor agreements, and accounts payable/receivable workflows
Process contributions, including personal checks, payroll deductions, and credit card receipts
Coordinate with NMMA’s FEC compliance contractor (Aristotle) to ensure receipts are recorded accurately and prepared for reporting
Assist in preparing materials for required FEC filings and compliance documentation
Coordinate monthly disbursements, including check requests, approvals, and mailings
Maintain PAC files, documentation, and contact records
Support accounts payable/receivable workflows related to BoatPAC
Assist with sponsorship tracking, vendor invoicing, and contract coordination
Maintain organized PAC records and contribution documentation
Qualification
Required
Minimum three years of administrative, scheduling, or operations experience—preferably supporting senior leaders or teams in a government relations, public affairs, nonprofit, or policy environment
Experience on Capitol Hill, in a federal agency, or preferred advocacy program
Strong organizational and project-management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CRM or legislative tracking tools a plus
High level of discretion and sound judgment
Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn
