The State of Alaska is seeking an Accounting Technician 1 to join their Division of Investments. This entry-level position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public service and financial operations while supporting loan programs that enhance Alaska's economy.

Responsibilities
Build a strong foundation in accounting through real-world experience with financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting
Receive training and mentorship to confidently navigate state financial systems like IRIS
Sharpen your attention to detail by identifying and resolving data discrepancies
Enhance your communication and customer service skills while supporting internal teams and external borrowers
Your work will directly support the journaling and distribution of daily cash receipts, suspense items, disbursements, and adjusting entries for the Division of Investments’ revolving loan funds
You’re the one entering transactions, reviewing and preparing deposits, and making sure the Division’s financial records stay accurate and up to date
You work closely with the Accounting Technician 2, 3, Accountant 3 and the Systems Manager, supporting them by maintaining accounting files, reconciling accounts, processing payments, and helping ensure fiscal workflows run smoothly across the Division
Qualification
Required
Foundational knowledge of accounting procedures and practices
Experience identifying discrepancies or inaccuracies in data, and making necessary corrections
Ability to interpret, apply, and explain laws, rules, and regulations as related to accounting
Knowledge of loan accounting, interest calculation and amortization
Experience with the state accounting system IRIS, or other automated accounting systems
One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations
Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month)
