Financial Controller

The Fisch Group is recruiting on behalf of a confidential, family-owned business based in St. Helena, CA. Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations for the business.

Responsibilities

Own the full accounting function, including general ledger, close process, and financial reporting
Lead the accounting department, including supervising accounting and administrative staff and managing outsourced functions
Maintain a documented system of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Design and manage an organizational structure that supports accurate reporting and efficient operations
Supervise daily, monthly, and quarterly subsidiary ledgers across company locations
Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and cash management
Ensure timely payment of accounts payable and prompt collection of accounts receivable
Ensure all reasonable vendor discounts are taken
Process payroll accurately and on schedule
Perform regular bank reconciliations and ensure debt payments are made on time
Maintain chart of accounts, fixed asset schedules, and depreciation
Monitor cash flow and report changes and needs to ownership
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (including consolidated reporting where applicable)
Lead the annual budgeting process and present budgets to ownership
Manage forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting
Provide financial analysis for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
Deliver timely financial insights and decision support to ownership and senior leadership
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting and tax filings (income, sales, property, excise, etc.)
Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
Oversee royalty reporting and required regulatory filings
Ensure all licenses, permits, and workers’ compensation filings are properly maintained
Serve as primary liaison with external CPAs, tax advisors, and auditors
Identify and drive process improvements, system enhancements, and automation
Build scalable financial systems and reporting infrastructure
Continuously improve close timelines, controls, and reporting quality

Required

8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
Prior experience as a Controller or Senior Accounting Manager
Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a lean organization
Strong Excel and financial systems expertise
Proven ability to lead teams and build strong working relationships
Excellent communication skills and executive presence
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)

Preferred

Experience in a private, family-owned company environment strongly preferred
