Architectural Historian On-Call

GEI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an on-call Architectural Historian who will assist with research, fieldwork, and report writing for architectural history projects. The role involves conducting architectural monitoring, archival research, and preparing cultural resources reports to ensure compliance with historical preservation regulations.

Responsibilities

Conduct architectural monitoring at construction site
Conduct archival research at local, state, and regional repositories
Participate in built environment surveys, evaluations for the National Register of Historic Places and/or California Register of Historical Resources, and mitigation
Prepare cultural resources reports in support of Section 106 compliance
Prepare CEQA and NEPA cultural resources sections
This position has a field component; travel and some overnight travel are required

Required

Graduate degree in History, Historic Architecture, Historic Preservation, or closely related field, with coursework in American architectural history; or a bachelor's degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or closely related field plus one of the following: 1. At least two years of full-time experience in research, writing, or teaching in American architectural history or restoration architecture with an academic institution, historical organization or agency, museum, or other professional institution; or 2. Substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of American architectural history
Two years of professional experience
Working knowledge and experience with National Register of Historic Places eligibility recommendations as well as with other applicable state and local regulations
Experience conducting primary and secondary research at repositories
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience independently preparing complex technical documents for various cultural resources projects
Willingness and ability to follow directions, stay on task, and be mindful of project budget and schedule
Willingness and ability to travel on short-term assignments as needed
Willingness and ability to perform field tasks
Valid U.S. driver's license
