Responsibilities
Uses computerized stenotype equipment to prepare verbatim records of legal proceedings
Prepares and distributes accurate transcripts in required format within specified timeframe
Reads back from court record during proceedings or prepares rough draft transcripts for court use
Maintains stenographic records in such a way that they are readily accessible for the period of time required by law
Purchases and maintains a personal reference library, and utilizes online reference sources
Purchases and maintains software, hardware and supplies necessary for the performance of court reporting
Hires support staff as necessary
Prepares and maintains records and reports
Performs related duties
Essential functions include, but are not limited to: sitting in court or at desk for machine shorthand writing and transcription; working with and around other court staff, clerk's staff, attorneys, defendants and the public; dealing with interruptions from co-workers, phones and unscheduled hearings; repetitive motion hand/wrist for machine shorthand writing and transcription; vision acuity (near / far) for computer and courtroom work; hearing for courtroom testimony, etc.; touch for shorthand, and computer work
Qualification
Required
Three years of experience as a court reporter, OR any combination of education, experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
