Wake County is seeking a new team member for the Appraiser position in the Department of Tax Administration. The role primarily involves valuing real property in compliance with local statutes and ensuring accurate assessments for taxation purposes.

Responsibilities

Accurately measure and value new construction and alterations to existing improvements
Assign appropriate values to parcels created through land splits and combinations
Review recent sales to determine representation of market value
Participate in reappraisal process including market analysis, neighborhood reviews, and field visits as necessary
Review applications for property tax exemptions and exclusions
Review building permits
Maintain complete and accurate records of work performed
Prepare defense of appraisals for properties that are appealed
Provide technical guidance and assistance to Revenue staff
Respond to inquiries from citizens
Perform other duties as needed

Required

Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
One years of experience in real or commercial property appraisal
North Carolina Department of Revenue - Real Property Appraiser I within one year of employment
Valid driver's license and 'safe' driving record
Equivalent education and experience are accepted
Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume

Preferred

Five years of experience in mass appraisal or a certified residential designation by the North Carolina Appraisal Board
Extensive knowledge of property tax general statutes
Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, computer, organizational and customer service skills
Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Excel with ability to develop detailed spreadsheets and tables
Experience reviewing real estate appraisals
General knowledge of residential construction
Strong analytical and business writing skills
Demonstrated competence with GIS mapping software
Ability to obtain certification from the North Carolina Department of Revenue as a Real Property Appraiser within (1) one year of employment
