Seasonal Engineering Equipment Operator

Responsibilities

Operates a wide variety of construction and engineering equipment and is responsible for carrying out assigned work on road and grounds maintenance and construction projects essential to the Park's mission and daily operations of the park(s)
Perform a variety of work that involves the operation of gasoline and diesel-powered heavy equipment at the journeyman level. Types of equipment/machinery used, but not limited to, includes graders, loaders, backhoes, excavators, rollers, bulldozers, dump trucks, skid steers, forklifts, all terrain load handlers, articulating boom mowers, snowplows, and blowers. Safely load and unload equipment onto flatbed and lowboy type trailers, and transport equipment to and from work sites
Equipment is operated to maintain park roads and shoulders, pull offs, parking areas, trails, campgrounds, boat launches, perform vegetation and snow removal, pull ditch lines, and in support of other park divisions to include rehab of old roads and industrial sites. Operate equipment in all weather conditions, in confined areas close to buildings, on narrow gravel and paved roads adjacent to steep drop offs with minimal guard rails, and over uneven terrain
Preventative maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment in compliance with manufacturer's specifications, complete simple repairs, minor repairs, and adjustments to equipment to include replacing chains, belts, cables and lubricating and adjusting attachments to maintain optimal operating conditions
Familiarity with handling and proper safety procedures encountered in operations to include understanding and using SDS (Safety Data Sheets), along with proper personal protective equipment (PPE) usage. Make routine and emergency repairs at all park facilities as required. Participate in weekly safety meetings and bi-annual park-wide safety days. Adhere to all required park safety rules and OSHA standards. Maintain safety checks on division vehicles
May perform other duties (in the event of park needs) such as janitorial cleaning, trash pickup, grounds-keeping, digging, raking, sweeping, and assisting in transporting camp/work supplies and construction materials

Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
DRUG TEST: You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use
COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE: You must possess and maintain a current Class (A) Commercial Driver's License
UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided
WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
Occupancy of government quarters may be required
MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program
