Special Deputy AG
The North Carolina Department of Justice represents the state and its agencies, handling complex criminal cases. The Special Deputy AG will represent the State in post-conviction cases, research and prepare briefs, and assist other attorneys in criminal appellate matters.

Responsibilities
Represent the State in state and federal post-conviction cases as assigned by the section head
Research and prepare the State’s briefs and present oral argument in complex criminal cases before the Supreme Court of North Carolina and the North Carolina Court of Appeals
Research and prepare the state’s response filings in federal habeas corpus petitions in federal courts
Assist and advise other attorneys in the Department of Justice in criminal appellate matters
Implement all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Section Head
Qualification
Required
Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar
Four years of progressively responsible professional legal experience
Preferred
Criminal Jury Trial Experience
Legal Research and Writing Experience
Capital Litigation Experience
