Microbiologist 1 (Limited Term)
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a Microbiologist 1 to join the Department of Environmental Protection. This role involves preparing and analyzing environmental water samples to detect various microorganisms, contributing to scientific research and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities
Preparing samples for analytical purposes
Receiving and logging samples
Preparing samples for analysis
Executing specialized processes for concentration, isolation, and purification in accordance with established protocols
Conducting analyses on water and wastewater to detect sanitary indicator bacteria, plankton, and pathogenic protozoans
Managing data entry and supporting various tasks within the Biological Services Section
Analyzing environmental water samples, including both water and wastewater, to assist with the section's workload throughout the harmful algal bloom season
Performing methodologies such as chromogenic and fluorogenic enzyme substrate assays, membrane filtration, heterotrophic plate count, and microscopic examination of bacterial colonies and harmful algae
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in microbiology; or
A bachelor's degree that includes 20 credits in microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology or bacteriology and 12 credits in chemistry or biochemistry
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits
