Senior Principal Federal Affairs - Washington, DC
Salt River Project is one of the largest public power and water utilities in the U.S. providing electricity to approximately one million customers. The role involves supporting the Senior Director of Federal Affairs by identifying emerging federal legislative and regulatory issues and developing governmental affairs strategies to achieve corporate goals.

Responsibilities
Work with internal teams (policy and other subject matter experts) to understand key legislative and regulatory issues and assist the Senior Director in developing and implementing legislative strategies on designated issues in order to help SRP maximize political support for corporate objectives
Produce written communications and position summaries based on legislative, policy and industry developments and research as well as provide written content for the Federal Affairs weekly and quarterly reports
Effectively articulate and communicate SRP’s position on federal legislative issues to members of Congress, their staff and other key decisions makers in the public policy process where directed; develop contacts on Capitol Hill, the executive branch and external groups ; remain current on industry issues and communicate relevant developments to management in a timely manner
Significant reading and ability to assimilate information on policy issues, trade press content, coalition and trade association activities, industry trends, and white paper article/ journals
Qualification
Required
A minimum of 14 years of relevant experience is required
In lieu of a degree, relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 18 years may be considered
Must be able to work independently and possess self-initiative in carrying out job responsibilities
Must be registered as a federal lobbyist
Must have strong writing skills
All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred
A bachelor's degree relevant to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred
