Environmental Field Technician

Responsibilities

Supports the review and preparation of technical documents related to environmental projects
Conducts research and compiles data from online sources, aerial imagery, and survey reports to inform project documentation
Assesses applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations to ensure project compliance
Assists in preparing and submitting permit applications required by regulatory agencies
Maintains accurate records to track compliance with environmental permit conditions
Participates in field reconnaissance and site visits to gather environmental data and assess project conditions
Contributes to the development of project plans, timelines, and schedules
Engages in consultations with regulatory agencies and attends project meetings and site visits as needed
Other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Environmental Geosciences, Environmental Studies, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or other related study from an ABET-accredited university
Minimum of three (3) months of professional experience in environmental consulting, environmental regulatory coordination, inspections, project management, or other natural resources-related professional experience, including internships
Strong understanding of environmental issues related to hazardous materials, wetlands, sensitive habitats, cultural resources, and stormwater management, particularly in the context of public infrastructure development and construction
Familiarity with key environmental regulations and compliance standards, including: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS), Section 404 and Section 10 permitting, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), ASTM standards for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), Texas Antiquities Code, Endangered Species Act (ESA), Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Texas Risk Reduction Program and Voluntary Cleanup Program, TPDES Stormwater General Permit for Construction Activities, Leaking Petroleum Storage Tank (LPST) cleanups and Brownfields redevelopment
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information and regulatory findings
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail in both field and office settings
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to produce professional reports and documentation
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams

Preferred

Enrolled in or completed a Master of Science (MS) degree program in Environmental Geosciences, Environmental Studies, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or other related studies from an ABET-accredited university
One (1) year of professional experience in environmental regulatory coordination, consulting, inspections, project management, or related natural resources positions
Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from engineering and architectural plans to support environmental assessments and compliance reviews
Proficiency in using handheld Trimble GPS units for conducting field-based environmental surveys and data collection
Working knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS), including experience with ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Desktop for mapping, spatial analysis, and data visualization
Familiarity with integrating field data into GIS platforms to support environmental planning and reporting
