Facilities Maintenance Mechanic
NEOGOV is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Mechanic to support the upkeep and functionality of City buildings and facilities in San Bernardino. This role involves performing mechanical repairs, facility upgrades, and preventative maintenance across multiple disciplines to ensure safe and well-maintained public spaces.

Responsibilities
Inspecting City buildings and facilities to identify maintenance or repair needs
Performing routine and emergency repairs on HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical components, and structural elements
Constructing or repairing cabinets, doors, counters, and furniture using hand and power tools
Maintaining fire and life safety equipment, such as sprinklers and extinguishers
Reading blueprints, sketches, or building plans to ensure precise construction and repair work
Coordinating with team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks and maintain accurate records of work completed
Operating small trucks, forklifts, and other equipment to transport materials and supplies to job sites
Ensuring compliance with safety regulations while performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma, or G.E.D.; AND three (3) years of progressively responsible building maintenance and construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
A State of California driver's license
Knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in rough and finish carpentry, cabinetry and wood finishing
Knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the construction and/or mechanical electrical trades
Knowledge of shop mathematics
Knowledge of principles and techniques of water and wastewater supply and drainage plumbing using galvanized, copper and PVC pipe, including HVAC maintenance
Knowledge of methods and materials used in concrete work, surface patching, and brick and masonry repair
Knowledge of surface preparation and application of paints appropriate to different internal and external surfaces
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand, power and shop tools and equipment common to the fields of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and related building trades
Knowledge of safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work
Knowledge of City policies, procedures, and standards
Skill in operating and maintaining specialized tools used in HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing and related building trades
Skill in measuring and calculating angles, lengths and volumes
Skill in designing, laying out and preparing sketches for building and related construction jobs
Skill in understanding and following oral and written instructions
Skill in estimating necessary materials and equipment to complete assignments
Skill in exercising independent judgment and initiative without close supervision
Skill in preparing basic records and reports
Skill in maintaining time and materials records
Skill in communicating effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City and County staff, contractors, citizen groups, and the public
Skill in properly maintaining and operating power driving construction tools and equipment
Skill in providing customer service
