TEMPORARY Invasive Species Outreach & Education Technician Mesa County

NEOGOV is seeking a Temporary Invasive Species Outreach & Education Technician for the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. The primary responsibility is to support the State Invasive Species Program through public outreach and education on invasive species management to various water recreation groups.

Responsibilities

Support the State Invasive Species Program through public outreach to non-motorized water recreation groups
Work will include trailering a mobile self-serve cleaning system throughout the Western Slope
Educate outfitters, anglers, hunters, and non-motorized watercraft users about aquatic invasive species and how to properly clean, drain, and dry their equipment
Outreach will include providing surveys, attending user group events and expositions, and educating recreational outfitters
Report to the James M. Robb Corn Lake State Park for assignment
Boat inspection and outreach training will be provided
Support the Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists by performing a variety of tasks including: watercraft inspection and decontamination, quality control assessment, inventory management, reviewing and editing technical reports, distribution of supplies to field locations, and data entry
Regular overnight travel and distance driving required
Early morning, evening & weekend work required

Required

Good driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays is mandatory
Ability to drive long hours and remain alert
Ability to trailer decontamination units on highways and steep mountain roads
Must be willing to be flexible with the weekday and weekend work schedule, as field work may be dictated by weather
Experience with Microsoft Word applications required – Word, Excel, Access
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail

Preferred

Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences or higher education
