Recreation Coordinator - Athletics

This role involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of the town’s recreation programs, assisting in planning and implementing activities, and providing leadership to part-time employees and volunteers.

Responsibilities
Assists Recreation Supervisor with coordination, development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of programs, services, maintenance, and resources to meet division goals and objectives
Creates schedules for staff and volunteers that best serve the programs’ needs
Creates programs; reserves program space, as needed
Disseminates program information to patrons; answers questions and resolves problems
Responsible for oversight of assigned facilities or sites, including, but not limited to, staffing and scheduling, lesson programs, group rentals, cleaning and maintenance, repair requests, supply purchases, and facility safety
Plans, develops, implements, and monitors program budgets and related information based on program needs, staffing salaries, and supplies
Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment, and makes purchases as necessary (and within budget constraints) to maintain programs and staffing needs
Conducts league meetings, coaches’ meetings, and parent meetings
Conducts in-service trainings to ensure compliance with certification requirements and to practice Emergency Action Plans
Attends Department staff meetings, trainings, and workshops, and conducts program staff meetings, volunteer orientations, and in-services
Conducts safety inspections as necessary to maintain a safe and user-friendly atmosphere for program participants
Maintains assigned records and reports for the Athletics Division
Interacts with numerous groups and individuals, such as patrons, volunteers, local sports organizations/clubs, local school districts, community agencies, and staff in the performance of daily activities
Stays abreast of changes in policies, procedures, methods, and Department/Division needs
Shares schedules and other program information with staff and participants
Performs public speaking engagements effectively, as required
Coordinates youth and adult athletic programs, recreational programs, and community events
Regularly evaluates athletic programs offered to youth and adults through the Recreation Division
Provides leadership and training of assigned program staff and volunteers, covering a variety of activities and functions, to ensure program assignments are completed
Oversees assigned program, instructional staff, and volunteers directly
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Leisure Administration, or related field preferred
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field, such as recreation, programming, etc
Must have a current Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one upon hire, that meets the Town of Windsor's standards
CPR/1st Aid certification within three (3) months of employment
Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of all assigned areas of recreation
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the Parks and Recreation Department and the ability to stay abreast of changes in policies, procedures, methods, and Department needs
Knowledge of rules, or ability to obtain, and the ability to execute enforcement of rules for a variety of sports
Ability to work with a diverse population
Ability to work successfully in a team-oriented atmosphere that provides citizens and employees with accurate information
Ability to work with participants needing program adaptation or reasonable accommodation
Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations with poise, voice control, and confidence
Skill in recording and delivering information in a teaching or instructional setting
Ability to communicate effectively with employees and various facility users to establish and maintain positive working relationships
Ability to prepare written documents with the proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech
Ability to ensure assignments and duties of volunteers and staff are completed as prescribed
Knowledge of the principles of organization, planning, development, time management, and supervision
Knowledge of current trends and methodologies within the youth sports field
Knowledge of the reports and records required to meet the needs of the Department and regulatory agencies
Ability to handle emergency or crisis situations and perform emergency care if necessary
Ability to handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy
Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, policies, and procedures
Ability to attend to details, multi-task, and take initiative
Ability to provide excellent customer service to all
Ability to use independent judgment and decision-making within established policy
Ability to use registration and league scheduling software
Demonstrates pride, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in dealings with the public
Preferred
Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience preferred
