Hearings Supervisor | Correctional Hearing Officer 4
NEOGOV is seeking a highly skilled leader to serve as a Hearings Supervisor (Correctional Hearings Officer 4) within the Department of Corrections. This role involves providing oversight of Correctional Hearing Officer 3s and ensuring that all hearings are conducted lawfully and with integrity, while also mentoring staff and maintaining quality standards.

Responsibilities
Supervise and assign workload to CHO3’s which could look like:
Supervising CHO3’s within the assigned geographical area
Assigning the CHO3 workload
Regularly assessing individual employees and team performance
Providing clear directions and clarification to staff regarding hearings
Assisting in the professional growth of each Hearing Officer
Facility/docket scheduling/re-scheduling and coordination to include:
Monitoring of contractual or transportation impacts, emergent health or facility needs, troubleshooting, etc
Communicating with internal and external facilities and other DOC units and divisions
Addressing complaints and concerns regarding hearings
Developing and managing docket modules for facilities
Managing ongoing docket/facility issues
Working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
Regional Hearing Appeal Panel lead and response to correspondence
Leadership Meetings
Serves as backup statewide Hearings Duty Officer and Probable Cause Determinant
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Six (6) years' experience as a Hearing Officer or the equivalent in a governmental agency
Six (6) years as a member of an administrative tribunal empowered to issue finding of fact or conclusion of law
Six (6) years of relevant legal related experience in private or public employment
Skilled communicator, to include written, verbal, and listening skills
Must have a notary or the ability to become a notary in the State of Washington within 90 days of appointment date
Must have the ability to coach, give instructions and constructive criticism
Preferred
A Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for High Education Accreditation (CHEA)
Masters or Juris Doctorate degree
Experience as a hearings examiner, mediator, arbitrator, court commissioner or judge
Specialized experience addressing complex legal issues
Working knowledge of offender management and supervision
One year supervisory or lead experience – may be gained concurrently with other required experience
