Temporary Part-Time Community Service Officer
NEOGOV is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Temporary Part-Time Community Service Officer in Northfield, MN. This role provides hands-on experience in law enforcement and public relations, focusing on community safety, parking enforcement, and public engagement.

Responsibilities
Provides excellent customer service to all members of our community, inclusive of all races, genders, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, ages, national or ethnic origins, languages, citizenship status, socioeconomic status, and political affiliations
Performs investigation and follow-up on nuisance complaints concerning the public safety and health of the community, including animal control activities
Tracks community events and posts parking restriction signs as needed
Completes police reports where applicable
Conducts parking compliance inspections within the downtown area on a daily basis
Responsible for upkeep and regular maintenance of all department fleet vehicles
Assists citizens by reducing fear of crime and victimization. Works with victims of crimes, identifying their difficulties created by the victimization
Conducts tours of the Safety Center when requested to do so
Answers questions from the public by phone or in person; directs inquiries to the proper individual or agency when necessary
Anticipates and communicates public interest and concerns about policing including working with victims of crimes to identify issues created by the victimization
Operates the CJIS information terminal
Acts as Records Specialist, retrieves mail, greets visitors and customers in the absence of the primary Records Specialist or as assigned
Assists in crime prevention training and programs as directed. Participates in programs that strengthen relationships between the police and the community and among community members
Promotes effective community and media relations by applying the Principles of Problem Oriented Policing model. SARA Model of problem solving
Keeps the sergeants, deputy chief, and police chief informed and makes recommendations on critical issues
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Qualification
Required
Completion of or current enrollment in post-secondary education in Law Enforcement, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field
High school diploma and a valid driver's license
Experience with Windows-based word processing and spreadsheets
Background check is required
Preferred
POST eligibility
Spanish fluency
previous criminal justice experience is highly preferred
