Library - FT Branch Manager (Gordon Avenue)
Jefferson-Madison Regional Library is seeking candidates for the Branch Manager position at the Gordon Avenue Library. This role involves overseeing library operations, managing staff, and engaging with the community to promote library services and programs.

Responsibilities
Supervises and participates in daily operations of assigned branch
Directly supervises, directs, schedules, and evaluates assigned staff. Hires, trains, and evaluates staff, coordinates and monitors work activities, assists with complex/problem situations and provides technical expertise. Makes suggestions for staffing level needs to library administration
Recruits, trains, and schedules volunteers
Oversees branch outreach services to the local community
Plans, prepares, presents, and reports results of educational and recreational programming for all ages, both internally and with external partners
Provides services at circulation desk, checking in/checking out library materials, creating library cards, fulfilling requests for items on reserve, and routing items to other branches. Assists patrons with fax, printing, copying and computer needs
Manages cash flow by counting cash register and preparing bank deposit
Provides reader’s advisory and reference services, and other assistance to patrons in use of the library. Conducts reference interviews in order to interpret questions and identify the appropriate response
Resolves non-routine patron interactions by communicating and interpreting library policy for staff and the general public
Manages and maintains the branch collection. Identifies gaps, makes suggestions for collection, and monitors consistency/accuracy in collection. Participates in weeding of materials based on lack of use, inaccuracy, or physical condition
Promotes library services and materials. Prepares attractive and accurate publicity flyers or displays. Assists in creating press releases on library activities
Oversees expenditures for Friends Funds for programming
Serves as community contact for branch, providing information to other agencies and local media about library services and plans, and responding to requests and questions from individuals, local government staff and other community organizations
Monitors maintenance and repair of building, grounds, and equipment. Schedules regular maintenance and submits work orders when problems are found. Selects and orders furniture, equipment, and supplies
Seeks professional development opportunities to keep up with best practices and trends in public librarianship
Prepares routine and special reports
Assists with development of regional library policies and procedures
Serves as a member of JMRL’s regional management team and participates in regional committee work
Responsible for appropriate use and maintenance of JMRL equipment, tools and other resources, including work time
Regular and reliable attendance
Performs additional duties to support operational requirements as apparent or assigned
Qualification
Required
Eligibility for professional certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia within the first 2 years of employment, AND 3 years of library work experience, including reader's advisory, reference, and/or children's services
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above
Required to successfully pass a pre-employment background check

Previous supervisory experience
Knowledge of general reference sources as well as electronic information resources
