Materials Inspector

NEOGOV is looking for a Materials Inspector to join the Department of Public Works Engineering & Construction. The role involves providing testing and sampling services for various construction materials associated with public utility projects within Baltimore County.

Responsibilities

Provides testing and sampling services for soils, concrete, domestic water, asphalt, and other various construction materials associated with public utility projects (sanitary sewer, storm drain, water, bridges, and roads) within Baltimore County
Compaction testing of soils
Utilizes a nuclear gauge and conventional soils testing equipment in order to provide a report of the level of compaction achieved during backfilling operations, associated with public utility work conducted in the County or State right of way
Samples new domestic water lines for the purpose of bacteriological testing before new lines are put into service
Provides written and verbal reports of all material testing
Samples Portland cement concrete associated with County and State/Federal aid bridge projects, utility structures, and roadway structures
Responsible for transporting these samples to a state or private testing lab for analysis
Assists Construction Inspectors in developing water test layouts and suggested compaction procedures
Samples other miscellaneous construction materials associated with County/State utility work and transports those samples to a state or private test lab for analysis
May be required to work night and weekend shifts
Performs other related duties as required

Required

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent
Two years' general construction or materials testing experience
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment

Preferred

Certification as a Concrete Field Testing Technician I by the American Concrete Institute or Radiation and Hazmat Certification in the operation of a nuclear density gauge may be substituted for one year of the required experience
